Master Class with Gina Grant

Saturday night I went to a Master Class with Gina Grant (Zumba Education Specialist).  It was fantastic!  There were about 50 participants and we did Zumba for about two hours.  Gina was AMAZING!  I love her choreography and use a lot of the stuff from her ZIN DVDs so I was especially thrilled to have the opportunity to be in her class.  She is a beautiful woman with a terrific personality and super Zumba moves!  It was a great evening and it made me even more excited for the Zumba convention in September.

A class in Johnson County - FINALLY

I'm teaching three times this month at the Sylvester Powell Community Center (on Martway across from the Barn Players).  I'm hoping to make this a permanent gig so I want big classes so they see that I have a good group who might come to this class.

Body Pump

I did my first Body Pump class last night. That was a lot of fun! I can see why so many of my class members also go to that class. What a great workout!

Working on May

It's hard to believe April is coming to an end.  I'm working on music for May.  I can't wait to add in belly dance and flamenco and samba this month.  Tango might have to wait until later in the month or maybe even June.  

May is a busy month for me at my day job so coming to Zumba and having fun with my classes will be great!

A little bit about me

I started going to Zumba classes in 2006.  I wasn't really a person who exercised much but I loved dancing.  Zumba was the perfect fit for me.  

After a year and a half I decided to take the plunge and do the instructor training.  I went to an all-day workshop in Columbia, MO in February 2008.  Tony and Jessica Witt led this workshop and I loved every minute of it.  We learned the basic formula for Zumba, four rhythms and how to teach a class.

The day after I went through the training I started rehearsals for a musical so I had to put teaching on hold.  I worked on songs when I had the opportunity and got a few subbing jobs.  I did some "one time only" classes and subbed for instructors for many months.  After I started feeling more comfortable, I was ready for a class of my own.  

I was at Amore Dance taking one of Tony's classes when a fellow instructor said that All American Fitness needed an instructor.  I told her to give my information to the contact.  A week later I met with Stacey and ended up with a class.

I feel so fortunate to have met such wonderful people as a Zumba student and now as a Zumba instructor.  I hope to continue to teach Zumba for a long time and to add other fitness classes to my repertoire.  

WOW!

Thanks to everyone who came out to class today!  I think this was our largest class to date and we had some new attendees!  It was a BLAST!  See you all on Saturday at 10:30.

Zumba Basics 2

I went to Basics 2 training yesterday and it was a BLAST!  Tony and Jessica Witt led the workshop and were as terrific as always.  We worked on belly dance, flamenco, tango and samba.  Guess what you'll be seeing more of in my classes?  :)

On top of the great rhythms we worked on, we also discussed the business side of Zumba more and I learned a lot from the Witts and my fellow Zumba instructors who were in attendance.  These workshops really inspire me and give me great new ideas.
